How it Works

GeoEDGE supported the development of a national-level disaster reporting platform built on the globally recognized DaLA methodology. The system empowers government agencies in Sri Lanka to assess and report post-disaster damage and economic loss in a standardized, efficient, and coordinated manner. Designed as a web-based tool, it enables sub-national and national stakeholders to input, manage, and generate real-time data and reports during disaster response and recovery.

The platform strengthens government capacity to make informed decisions, coordinate resources, and implement recovery strategies more effectively across key sectors.

“Our goal was to digitize a globally trusted assessment methodology, making post-disaster response faster, smarter, and locally empowered.”

Process & Results

We began by customizing the DaLA methodology to suit Sri Lanka’s institutional framework and disaster response protocols. Our team then developed a secure online reporting system that allows government agencies to enter structured damage and loss data for sectors such as housing, agriculture, health, and transport. The system includes custom reporting tools, analytics dashboards, and guided input flows aligned with DaLA standards.

In addition, we created detailed user manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and trained 50 national and local officials nominated by the Disaster Management Centre. The result is a responsive, locally owned digital platform that significantly enhances Sri Lanka’s capacity to assess disaster impacts and streamline recovery planning.
